I welcome the opportunity to work with people who are wanting to explore and experience how combining SE and IRF can create lasting change.

SE and IRF isn’t something I do to clients but rather something I use with clients to help them create an inner environment in which tension eases, wounds heal, vitality returns and a connection to one’s self deepens and expands.

Specialization

In my private practice, rather than just use one modality, I utilize an integrative strength-based therapeutic approach that emphasizes attachment focused EMDR (certified), IFS informed-EMDR, EMDR-2.0, FLASH, Somatic Experiencing (SEP), Inner-Relationship Focusing, Advanced Psychodrama and Psychodramatic Bodyworks, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and family systems orientations. By highlighting the mind-body-spirit connection, I encourage the development of skills designed to increase self-awareness and to improve one's ability to tolerate, embrace, and respond to experiences as they are in any given moment, as well as to improve communication and adaptive coping.

My therapeutic style has grown not only from my background working as a psychologist but also from my prior career as a professional ballet dancer. Both of these professions taught me the importance of understanding and fostering the link between the physical and emotional aspects of the self, and of creating balance in order to nurture the "whole" self. My specialties include working with individuals, couples and families struggling with complex trauma, attachment wounds, addiction, anxiety, depression/mood disorders, OCD, stress management, HIV/AIDS and other chronic medical/pain conditions, interpersonal/family conflict, career and life transitions, creative blocks, loss and bereavement, issues related to identity and self-esteem, and work with identified populations (i.e., college students and professionals, performing artists, etc.)

As a clinical social worker, I practice Somatic Psychotherapy, integrating techniques from Inner Resource Focusing, Focalizing, Mindfulness, and Somatic Experiencing into my work with clients. My background in early childhood education has informed my understanding of human development and supports clients in having a better understanding of their inner childs or "little ones" as we call them in IRF. Integrating IRF into my practice has benefited my clients, allowing them to access a greater understanding of and compassion for themselves, including their critical, stuck, fearful, and avoidant parts. It helps them to feel and accept the whole being that they are. URL: kanikapriya.com (to be updated soon)

  • As a trained Somatic Practitioner I provide virtual sessions to clients worldwide.

Specialization

I’m a trained Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Somatic Parts Work Facilitator. I am not a trained psychotherapist – by choice. I specialize in helping highly sensitive people embody a more authentic and coherent sense of self in relation to others, particularly in key moments where their default nervous system response has been to freeze, fawn, and energetically “disappear.” I work exclusively with adults in one-on-one sessions and do not offer couples therapy.

The first step in working with me is to schedule a free consultation by emailing me contacting me through my website. I typically work with people in blocks of 12 sessions and offer a sliding scale to accommodate different financial situations.

My somatic practice integrates Somatic Experiencing, Inner Relationship Focusing and NeuroAffective Touch. My clients tend to describe themselves as curious, open, creative and seek support with what is getting in the way of them feeling less tension and more understood in their life and in their relationships. Using SE & IRF and when appropriate, in person somatic touch or intentional touch online, I help clients develop skills to contact their felt sense and deeper ways of knowing to experience life with less tension and heal symptoms of early relational wounding. Clients gain more clarity and learn empowering life skills of self-support to bring into daily life. To make an appointment with me, you can email or go to my private practice website.
